Day 1

Arrival in Yerevan

Day 2

City tour, visit the master of Duduk (wind instrument made of apricot wood), fruit and vegetable market, museum of history

Arrival is in the early morning, reception by the tour guide and transfer to your hotel. You can move into your room immediately after arrival and rest a bit. After breakfast, you will start a city tour in Yerevan. Walk in the modern city center. Afterwards we drive to the fruit and vegetable market Gum, where Armenian dried fruits, nuts, and other specialties can be found. In the house of the Duduk master and piano player Karen Hakobyan we will listen to the sounds of various Armenian flutes and take a coffee break. The day ends in a nice restaurant where we can enjoy national dishes under the national music. Overnight is in Yerevan. b/с/d

Day 3

Matenadaran, Geghard Monastery, Garni Sun Temple, Azat Gorge basalt formations, Yerevan

We have the opportunity to visit old Armenian manuscripts in the unique manuscript museum Matenadaran. Today we explore the Kotayk region, which is about 40 km from Yerevan and where we can visit the beautiful rock monastery Geghard from the 13th century. The monastery was called so because of the holy lance, with which Jesus was pierced on the cross by a Roman soldier, was brought by the apostle Taddäus and hidden here for 500 years. Geghard means lance, spear. We are greeted by the only surviving Garni Sun Temple, dedicated to pagan god Mithra and built in Greco-Hellenistic style in the 1st century AD on a beautiful hill of the Asat River Gorge. Afterwards, we will have a delicious rural lunch with a family in the village of Garni and participate in the baking of the national flatbread Lavash, which we can also try with cheese on the spot. After eating and relaxing, we drive in off-road vehicles in the ravine of the river Azat, to the breathtaking Azat Valley, where the beautiful basalt columns can be seen. Among the locals, the columns are called symphony of stones. Impressed we drive back to Yerevan. Free evening. b/l

Day 4

Workshop of the Master of Cross Stones, Church of St. Hripsimeh, Ejmiadsin Cathedral, genocide memorial, cognac factory

We will visit the Workshop of the Master of Cross Stones in the early morning, where we are shown and explained how these stones are made. The cross stones are like the signature of Armenians, the national identity, which are also an important part of Armenian culture. Afterwards we will drive to the city of Ejmiatsin, which is about 20 km from the capital, where is the religious center of all Armenians, the Mother Goddess Cathedral of St. Ejmiatsin, the first official Christian church in the world, built in 303. There we will also visit another Church from the 7th century, the saint Hripsime, where is the martyrdom of Capadocian nuns. The Hripsime Church is UNESCO World Heritage Site with the Cathedral and other local churches. We will have lunch at an art school of Ejmiatsin city. Drive to Yerevan. Visit to the cognac factory, where you can also taste good cognac. Free evening. b/l

Day 5

Khor Virap Monastery ,Areni 1 Cave, Noravank, Jermuk

We will explore the Ararat plain in the early morning, where a good weather of the Ararat Mountain will welcome us. The Chor Virap Monastery is about 3 km from the foot of the mountain, which is an important place of pilgrimage and from where Christianity in Armenia was spread in the 4th century. Tradition has it that the first Catholicos of Armenians were thrown here in a deep dungeon for 13 years. Then we drive to the south, go past the village of Areni, where the most famous wine variety grapes Areni grow. Then we explore the cave Areni 1, where a 6000 years old wine cellar, the oldest leather shoe in the world and many other things were invented. Then we drive to the beautiful Norawank monastery from the 13.-14. century, to a medieval masterpiece, which is built by the princely family Orbelian. Lunch is with a local family, where you can taste a house wine. We continue to drive to the Jermuk resort town . Walk through the city where you can taste mineral water from natural sources. Overnight in the city. b/l

Day 6

Jermuk, Zorats Karer, Goris

Today after breakfast we drive to the beautiful gorge, where we can admire the magnificent waterfall, ride the cable car up the mountain from where a beautiful view of the city opens up. We drive into the mountains with off-road vehicles, to the mineral springs and at the same time enjoy the beauty of nature. After lunch we drive to the Goris city. On the way we visit the 7500 years old observatory «Karahundsch» or also called «Sorats Karer». Overnight is in Goris. b/l

Day 7

Khndzoresk cave village, Tatev Monastery, Yeghegnadzor

After breakfast we move to Khndzoresk, the cave settlement at the charming gorge, which can be reached by the swing bridge. The environment fascinates by the varying landscape scenarios. In the afternoon we explore the mighty Vorotan Gorge, at the abyss in an exposed position the monastery Tatev (9th century), where in the Middle Ages was a famous university. We reach the monastery with the cable car "Wings of Tatev" (5.7 km). But before that we will enjoy typical dishes in the garden of a family. Coming back to Yeghegnadzor, overnight is in the city or surroundings. b/l

Day 8

Caravanserai-Noratus-Sevansee-Shipping-Yerevan

Today we drive to Lake Sevan, the blue pearl of Armenia. The route takes us over part of the famous Silk Road, the Wardenyats pas, where we stop at the caravanserai from the 14th century. We will continue to the village of Noratus, where in a cemetery more than 1 000 cross stones from the 9th century to the present day can be seen. They are chiseled according to the ideas of different masters and represent the cross stone art. Then we drive to Lake Sevan, which is the second highest freshwater lake in the world (ca1920 m). Here we take a half-hour boat trip on the lake. Lunch on the lake is in the restaurant where fish is served. Coming back to Yerevan. Overnight is in Yerevan. b/l

Day 9

Free day in Yerevan

Today you can plan your day according to your own wishes, visit other museums, make a tour of the capital, visit the art market vernissage, watch the water show on the republic square in the evening and be prepared for the flight home. Overnight is in Yerevan. b/d
